For the later session 11:00am, I decided to join some others for 45 minutes in the main hall with Rosemary Bailey, entitled
Medley Maker – with Rosemary Bailey
This was divided into 4 sections
1 ) End the song dramatically
Immediately begin intro to the next song
Alter instrumentation and dynamics to make the music interesting
2) Sustain the last melody note of the prior song
Relate that note tot he key of the following song, for example…
A ‘C’ Melody note (in the key of C) can also be part of an F chord. So by holding down the ‘C’ in the right hand while you change the left hand chord to ‘F’, you have created a musically pleasant transition.
3) Use automatic rhythm or manual percussion to establish a new style
Use out-of-tempo sound effects to create a mental visual of the mood – Select auto rhythm/rhythm breaks/auto intro to match the next song
4) Create a natural, Flowing transition between songs
retard. (gradually slow down) the final few bars of the prior song,
adjust volume to suit the mood of the tune, then smoothly connect the songs by playing the final 2 bars of the melody, then move up or down a 1/2 step and repeat the intervals.
